Venetian Plaster

Venetian Plaster is a finishing technique used to create a smooth surface with the illusion of depth and texture. It is also used to imitate stone effects that will look and feel just like real stone. It is a very elegant and sophisticated finish that when burnished gives a smooth and glossy reflection, cool to the touch. Left untouched, its texture resembles an adobe clay wall.

The authentic Venetian plaster is mainly made from marble dust, slacked lime, white glue and/or linseed oil, but every Italian plaster (stucco) has it’s own formula. This material is not known only for it’s beautiful appearance, meaning and ability to imitate different stone effects, but is also known as the healthiest Eco-friendly painting material that exist.

It is the presence of lime that makes Venetian plasters antibacterial, also mold & mildew resistant blocking the growth of mold as it was originally made to resist high humidity levels of Venice. Venetian Plaster is highly recommended by interior designers, architects and painting companies. It is highly durable treatment often used on large surfaces such as walls and ceilings.

In combination with metallic paints, stencils and other painting materials, the creativity and usability becomes endless. Textural mediums

Textural Mediums are used to mimic natural linen fabrics, silk, and grass cloth. Faux linen, faux silk, faux grass cloth are a great substitutes to wallpaper in areas with high humidity. They are often mistaken for wallpaper. „I can’t believe it’s not a wallpaper” is a very common reaction to these finishes. This custom mix of textural mediums will last much longer than a wallpaper, in fact, it will never peel off. With a right application it will stick even to formica and tile. For earth friendly and budget-oriented clients, this is the quickest and easiest way to „get rid of” outdated surfaces. The look could be simple and earthy, sleek modern or glamorous and chic. Metallic paints and plasters with shimmering particles are often used to achieve this truly luxurious feel. Many stencils and other embellishments can be applied for more custom, personalized, one of a kind finish.

o’villa sabina
